Soap Hollow furniture was made in the mid to late 1800s in Somerset County, Pa. in the little town of Soap Hollow near Johnstown,Pa. Examples of outstanding furniture-makers and decorators included Jeremiah H. Stahl, Joseph Sala and John M. Sala. Soap Hollow cupboards often are painted red with black, sometimes with floral stencils or other designs.
