This slant top desk is a reproduction of an 1830s Mahantongo Valley desk decorated by Jacob Maser, now in a museum. The slant top opens to a desk, above two small drawers over two large drawers. Built and hand decorated by us in the Mahantongo Valley Pennsylvania German style of the 1830s associated with artist Jacob Maser of the Schwaben Creek Valley area of Northumberland County.
Shown with aged black base paint color as requested by a customer. (Original piece base color was green.) Outlined in red and yellow with painted fan spandrels in the corners. As in the original, decorated with with birds, stylized hearts and tulips, compass stars, and red and yellow red rosettes painted up and down and all across the desk case stiles. Original furniture from the Mahantongo Valley is very rare and less than 200 pieces are known to exist in museums and private collections.
